Seven Weeks Old

I just realized that I failed to post an update last week. We have had two puppies go to their new homes in the last week. One of our little boys went to live with a couple in Biloxi, MS. One of our little girls went to live with a family in Centre, AL. This family has a precious baby boy that I am sure the newly named "Miley" will love. The puppies are so cute when they get out and play in the yard. Here are a few pictures of the last week. These first few where when Tanner spilt some puppy food in the floor. He was sweeping it up and this little boy was so happy eating it right out of the dust pan. I wish that you could see that little tail wagging. It was going 100 mph.

After this I took all the puppies and bathed them. After that was done I let them play in my bathroom while their pen dried out. I had cleaned out the pen and the floor was soaking wet. My favorite was the one that fell asleep with it's nose inside my stinky shoes.

Apparently ripping up a feminine product wrapper is exhausting!

Six Weeks Old, Mar. 18, 2009

Puppies are now six weeks old. I can't believe how quickly they grow and change. They went to the vet this week and got their shots and a check up. The vet said that it was the healthiest litter of Golden Retrievers that he had seen in years. Jonathan was like a proud Papa showing off his brood! We did sell one of the males this week. He will be a birthday surprise for a nine year old girl who has been wanting a Golden Retriever. He will be with us until the day of her birthday party in two weeks. Since we cannot tell them apart, we purchased several different color collars to place on the puppies that are purchased. Now if we can figure out how to keep them from pulling them off! They are so cute and so playful. Here are a few pictures of us playing in the yard last night.

Five Weeks Old

The puppies are now five weeks old and just keep getting funnier and funnier. They are running clumsily, wrestling with each other, and licking everything. I didn't get to take as many pictures this week because my camera died, but I did get a couple.

Four Weeks Old, Mar. 4, 2009

To celebrate the four week old birthday of the puppies, we decided to play outside and enjoy the warmer weather. They had a blast and so did we. In the beginning they were kind of confused by the grass but they soon realized that it was a fun tasty snack! Dixie was a little uneasy at first but as long as she could butt in and get some of the attention she was okay. The only problem she had was every time she would lay down or get close to the puppies they would try to eat. They played for about an hour and then went to sleep. It was a good day.

Three Weeks Old

Wow, the puppies have changed so much this week. All of their eyes and ears are opened. They are walking all over the place but it is still shaky. They are starting to teethe and will chew on anything that is near their mouths.

Then last night we decided that it was time for them to move into their new home inthe garage. WE have had it set up, but it has been too cold. Last night we went and boughta heat lamp and booted them out. They seemed right at home, but Dixie was not crazy aboutbeing locked up. This morning when I went out to check on them they were snuggled in the rays of the heat lamp sound asleep. I am glad to have my laundry room back and for it to not smell like a kennel.

Two Weeks Old, Feb 18, 2009

The puppies have finally started opening their eyes. Now that most of them can see, they are trying to walk. It is so cute because they just tremble while putting all of their weight on their little legs. They still love to be piled up on top of each other, but will occasionally go off by themselves for a few minutes. They are just precious!

One Week Old Feb. 11, 2009

These were taken on Sunday, February 8. The puppies were 3 days old. Dixie had gone outside and the puppies were resting.

These were taken this morning. The puppy are now one week old. They are moving around much better. They are also more vocal. Dixie will now leave them by themselves for a few minutes. You can tell from the closeups that the eye's haven't opened yet. The ears are also still closed up.

Dixie's Delivery February 4, 2009

When I got home February 4, 2009 around 3:30 Dixie ran in the house and went straight to the laundry room. This is where she sleeps at night but doesn’t usually go in there voluntarily. She got on her blanket and started spinning in circles and digging in it. I noticed that she kept shaking. I called Jonathan to tell him that I thought Dixie was in labor. While I was on the phone Tanner came in and told me that something didn’t look right. I went and checked and it was the nose of a puppy. By 4:30 we had two puppies. Dixie did a great job of cleaning them.

After about 30 minutes she had not delivered any more puppies so I decided to leave her alone for a little while and go help Jonathan fold laundry. It wasn’t ten minutes and she started bringing the puppies to me in the den and trying to jump up in the big chair. I had to go back in the laundry room and sit with her. As long as I was there petting her and talking to her she was fine.

Around 5:00 she started having more puppies. By 5:30 she had a total of 5. These deliveries went even smoother that the first ones. She didn’t seem distracted or bothered at all by all the people and children that were watching her. By the time the 5th one was delivered the others began to nurse. This all went very smoothly which was great since this is her first litter. When the children were getting ready for bed Taylor checked on Dixie and she was having another puppy. When we went to bed at around 10:00 there were 9 puppies.

At around 2:30 the next morning we woke up to the phone ringing and of course it was a wrong number. I figured I would go check on Dixie while I was up and was surprised to find 11 puppies. This morning when I woke up I went to the laundry room to clean up the blankets and the floor. I started moving Dixie and the puppies and counting to make sure that there were not any more. I was sad to find one and gotten stuck under Dixie and died. I got her all moved around and a clean blanket. When I left they all seemed to be doing just fine. What a pretty bunch of puppies!

Getting their own blog

I have decided that our precious puppies need a blog of their own. This will be useful for people interested in purchasing one of these sweet animals. Please be patient because I am not sure how long it will take me to move the information over.
